Another weekend is upon us, team!
Work is winding down from the spring break frenzy and all is calm. Except for my neighborhood. Man, it’s crazy out here. Look both ways when you cross the street, would ya? The vaccine rollout has people hyped!
Not me. I still won’t go to a restaurant but we can get into that some other time. Another Friday night with the dog, my feet up, and my favorite drink. Just the way I like it. Quiet.
I’ve been having fun writing about different generations this week (I’ll send you that one later). But today I’m sharing an article with you that I just sent to publish.
Enjoy it. And enjoy your weekend! It’s going to be beautiful out here (but honestly, when is it not?).
Safe Travels,

You Should Buy a New Apple Watch. Or Don’t, Whatever.
Apple has got me hooked again on their products.
Plink
I bumped my Apple Watch on the door frame.
I had done this countless times and had no problems. I looked down and the glass on the face had popped up. I tried to click it back in.
Plink
My husband tried.
Plink
No luck.
I went online to make an appointment at Apple and found out that you have to mail your watch in for these kinds of things. They won’t do it in the store. $230 for a fix. Just get a new one, my husband advised.
Nooooooooooooo.
I didn’t want a new one. I wanted my old one to work.
My husband bought the Apple Watch Series 6 back in December and he just figured out the glitch that was preventing him from connecting it to cellular. It’s been four months. (It was something in his phone. He took his SIM card out, put it in my phone, and connected his watch. Once the watch had been “found”, he switched the SIM cards back and it worked. Six phone calls with AT&T and twelve hours of speaking to different people couldn’t resolve that issue, by the way. He found the answer for himself online).
Maybe I don’t need it, I told myself. I can just wear this Timex.
Wait — I can’t pay for things with my Timex. Damnit!
What’s the temp outside? Wait, no watch. Ugh…I have to reach for my phone? That’s way too hard.
That Apple Watch had become such a big part of my day — I didn’t even realize it. Damn you Apple.
I had no intention of having this watch in the first place. It was a gift from my step-mom on a trip I took back home three years ago. It was extremely generous of her. She regularly walks Sabino Canyon in Arizona and her walking partners had them. They’re so cool! She exclaimed.
She was right. It was cool.
It was freedom to have all the convinces of my cell phone on my wrist. I got used to having a variety of information at a glance: time, temp, timer, sunrise/sunset times, and the date. I get all of that from a two-second glance at my wrist. I can also pay for things — with my watch — an instant touch-less interaction and no one needs to see my ID. It still amazes me and I use that function almost daily.
What do I need an Apple Watch for? I asked myself that before I had one. I work in retail and do not need that watch. I used to pride myself on not always having the latest technology. I considered myself practical.
I was content with my analog watch. I stacked it with unique bracelets and made my own style out of it. Apple Watch /schmapple watch. I didn’t need it.
I didn’t need it until I had it and then lost all the benefits in one fail, plink!
Then, I had to buy a new one.
$230 for a fix of an old watch and I was halfway to buying a new one. My husband was right, I should just get a new one. So I did.
I had no issues connecting it to cellular as my husband did. It was super easy. It was seamless. The new one is the same as the old one, but better. It’s the slightest bit bigger and the tiniest bit clearer and brighter. It is faster. It has new features. Okay, okay. Damnit, Apple got me again.
They have also introduced Apple Fitness+, workouts that connect immediately to your watch and track your progress. I was like, I won’t be into that. I’m into it. There are a lot of classes. They offer a ton of variety and it syncs seamlessly. Damnit, Apple got me again.
I dislike how dependent I have become on this watch. However, I do a good job of not letting it rule me. I turn off all the annoying alerts like breathe and stand. (Don’t tell me what to do, Apple Watch!) The things I do use it for do save me time and allow me to do stuff without having my phone on me which is cool.
Is any of this necessary? No. Is it convenient and fun? Yes.
If you enjoy technology, try it. If you like your iPhone, consider it. If you’re super into fitness and tracking all that stuff, it’s pretty cool. But, if you’re not, that’s cool too. I respect the analog watch-wearers. I also respect the no-watch wearers.
Whatever you do, do because you like it, and no other reason. I did. I got another Apple Watch and I’m stoked. I use it every day. (Only analog watch faces for me though. Digital is forbidden.)
Buy an Apple Watch and you too can build all these “conveniences” into your lifestyle. Or don’t and don’t worry about it, whatever. They are both the right answer.
