Welcome new subscribers! Iâm so stoked youâre here.
Letâs get into it.
The Autumn Equinox passed a few days ago. Usually, I wouldnât have cared too much or even noticed. My retail career kept me focused on the future. I lived two weeks ahead of myself, and I was focused on the calendar the company set for us.Â
I was constantly planning. Always looking toward the future and never the present.Â
This year that has all changed. Now that I work for myself and from home, I live in the present.Â
I look at the weather, the moon phases, and what time the sun rises. I pay attention to my energy level and notice my dogâs (he gets a lot of energy when the moon is full).Â
I work when I have energy and rest when I donât. My health is better than itâs been in a decade.Â
The summer solstice gave me pause earlier this year, and now the autumn equinox has. Even though weâre headed for another heat wave, I can feel the air turning crisp and see the days getting shorter.Â
My closet is jam-packed with sweatshirts dying to be worn. (Iâm coming for you, hoodies!).
The first day of Fall. The autumn equinox was on September 22nd. The sun sits directly above the Earthâs equator, moving from north to south; it creates an equal day and night.Â
The word equinox comes from Latin, meaning âequal night.â An equinox night and day are of equal length worldwide. Everyone experiences this equal day and night from all corners of the globe. We all go through the same celestial event - pretty cool.
As the weather and seasons change, so do what our bodies need to be able to thrive.
I have a fantastic acupuncturist, and she talks to me about the seasons every time I meet with her. Now I understand why.
âFall is the beginning of the yin cycle when the daylight lasts less than twelve hours. Itâs a time of harvest when we gather the colorful fruits and vegetables for winter storage. Pumpkins and squashes are our symbols of bounty. We also store wood for the fire and get out our warm clothes for the colder, darker days of winter.â -Acufinder dot com
Itâs an excellent time to finish projects and organize your home.
The lung is associated with Fall and with letting go. Itâs also susceptible to wind and cold - pull those sweatshirts out of your closet to help protect your body from flu and colds. Grab a light scarf if you have one.
âYou want to avoid the wind getting knocked into you,â my good friend advises.Â
I look forward to the seasons changing now. Even though I live in a moderate climate and donât get to see all the Fall foliage, it still feels different. When you live in the moment, it feels different.Â
Stop for a few moments this weekend and feel the change in weather. Notice the days getting shorter. Grab warmer layers if you need to.Â
Slow down, breathe deep, and pour your favorite drink. Pet your pets and put your feet up.Â
Until next time.Â
Peace,
Kit
