Hey Travelers,
California lifted its mask mandate this week. There is this kind of frantic energy in the air. It feels like a people-scramble. There is also this huge urge to just fill up any empty space on your calendar.

Go Go Go.
I get it. I’m right there in it too. I’m planning vacations on top of vacations. Friends and family are running out to visit and soak up some cool coastal weather. Schools are out and tourists are flocking here. Gridlock is back in full effect. So, it feels good and bad at the same time. It’s like the stress of the pandemic lifted and the stress of regular-ass life just took its place.
Carve out moments in your day with nothing. This is hugely important for me. I use that time to write but the quiet in the morning is worth getting up early for. It’s cool. It’s overcast. The construction nearby hasn’t fully kicked in. The bars and restaurants are empty.
I never thought I’d be a morning person but man, this is where it’s at. When you have a job that requires you to be around a lot of people all day long, the last thing you want to do when you’re off is hang around a pile of strangers.
The older I get, the more I have to schedule absolutely everything. If I want to hang out with a friend, I have to put it on the calendar. Clean my house? Calendar. It feels stupid and necessary at the same time. If I don’t then it will never happen. I’ll just end up lonely with a dirty house. No bueno.
So, friends, schedule it all but leave some time for the quiet. Leave some space for your mind to wander. Figure out how you really feel about that next thing you’re supposed to go to. Do you even want to go or are you just trying to fill up space to make up for 2020? If you are, that’s okay too. Just see it.
Have a beautiful weekend out there. Stay cool, leave your pets at home if it’s too hot where you are. They will be more comfortable napping in a quiet house than out in the heat. You never know, you may be too. (Note to self…naps…put naps on the calendar). Until next week…
Peace,
Kit
