Hey people,
When one door closes, another opens. We all know that. Sometimes it’s harder to close that door than you thought it would be. It was in my case.
I knew I was ready to leave retail, but man! It was so hard.
I had the send-off that people only dream about too. My team gave me a giant scrapbook filled with photos and letters. I got a phone call from the VP of stores and a visit from my regional manager. They both thanked me for the work I did and what I contributed.
Nine years builds a lot of memories. I haven’t cried this much in a decade.
I guess that’s why people usually stay in jobs where they’re comfortable. It’s easier. It would have been easier for me to stay, comfier. But I’ve never been the type of person to take the easy way out.
I chose retail as a career, for example. It was extremely tough. A giant part of my job was getting interrupted all day long. I mean ALL DAY LONG. I don’t think I ever completed anything without being interrupted - or stared at. (Customers stare at you while you’re busy, by the way, so they can get your attention when you’re free.) Goodbye retail.
Always up for a challenge, I now say hello to writing full-time. Hello!
There are still things I don’t know. I’m still working on my website and setting up spreadsheets to track my projects and expenses. I’m learning every day. It’s exciting and so much fun to learn something new. The best part is that I get to make all the decisions. YES!
Hello freedom and scouting out new projects…gulp! While it seems like Mt. Everest, I know that I will continue to connect with cool people and unique projects.
Like this…
A former assistant manager, Zane Stanley, drew this for me. I’m currently working on the sizing, clarity, etc., but I love it so much.
That is exactly what my dog looks like! I’m not crying; you’re crying!
I made it my logo for now. We’ll see how it evolves.

LinkedIn Newsletters Have Hit Hard
This weekend I’ll be working on some crypto articles. I will try to enjoy walking through the world in a new way. This all still feels really weird. It feels like I’m on vacation, and I’ll have to head back to work on Monday.
Thanks for hanging out with me while I navigate this new weird world.
Next Saturday, a new recipe and playlist are headed your way. I’m so stoked about the energy of this one! I’ve been tinkering with the playlist for a couple of weeks, and it’s gonna be rad.
I’m narrowing down a recipe. I’ll do something cool - let me know what you’re looking for. Something for Valentine’s Day? A new weeknight dinner? Drop me a comment, and I’ll send ‘ya something good!
Subscribe below for full access to this newsletter, including the playlists and recipes. It’s only $5/month. Do it…you know you want to.
I’m giving my LinkedIn homies another shoutout because the doors are closing soon on their LinkedIn course.
Tim & Todd do a great job with these classes, and they have an established community that is ready to help you (including me 😉). It’s so much fun to learn about the platform, apply their tips, and watch your community come together.

If you have any desire to grow your LinkedIn presence this year, this is the best place to do it! They take the guesswork out and get down to what works.
Alright, you guys, have a fantastic weekend! If you’re working, stay hydrated and take lots of breaks. If you have time off, I hope you get to spend it with people you like. Get some fresh air. Hang out with your pets. Take a nap. Slow down; you’ve done enough.
Until next time -
Peace,
Kit
You really captured it! The bittersweet transition of leaving and stepping into something new. And that drawing is something else!!!
