I’m Not Really a Coach. Here’s Why You Should Join My Cohort Anyway.
I may never run The Summit again.
I thought I was leaving my retail career behind to become a writer, but that didn’t quite happen. In the last two years I’ve learned many different jobs. I’ve become a writer, social media manager, email marketing intern, podcast guest, author, junior graphic designer, “thought leader” (your words, not mine), and now leadership coach.
Being a leadership coach isn’t a stretch for me. It’s the role I held for over two decades; however, now it’s different.
I coach people I don’t directly work with daily. We’ve never met in real life—only through my laptop. I like it because I genuinely like helping people, but I will also be honest.
I don’t know if I’m ever going to do it again.
It’s not writing
Over the past six weeks, I’ve spent about 100 hours creating, writing, and implementing a cohort for retail leaders:
The Retail Leader’s Summit: Decoding Leadership Styles.
Twelve modules and 15 in-depth questions have been written. Participants have been scheduled for two video calls and two office hours. Seven consecutive emails about the summit have been crafted and scheduled to be sent. I created the logo and flipped through hundreds of photos to find just the right one that correlates with each part of the course.
I’m super proud of myself.
I may never run this cohort again.
Here’s why.
Watch where you spend your time
Everything that pulls me away from writing is questionable.
There are five more books I want to write.
More importantly, my ambition is to change the retail industry. We need leaders who want to invest in their frontline teams, treat them really well, and pay them even better. Tech is necessary but not more than the people.
The frontline has been stripped to its core, and the companies that tout customer service are smothering it.
But here’s the thing: We can change it. It’s up to all of us; if you’re not on board, you may lose.
Wait. Hold up.
(Did you feel me about to go off on a tangent there? Yeah.)
That’s why I may never coach a leadership cohort again.
So, why am I telling you all of this?
Because my leadership summit begins Tuesday, April 23rd, and if you ever thought for one second that you might someday want to hire me as a coach, do it now because you may not get the chance again.
The next three months will determine the next three years for me. It may not include leadership coaching.
Did I do a crap ton of work for no money? Yep.
Will anyone even sign up? I don’t know.
What I do know is that I learned a lot and expanded my mind and skill set. Doing that is never a waste of time. I also know that people with the most impact have a single focus.
So, join me next Tuesday for a really fun two-week group coaching summit.
After running stores for twenty years, I can help you more in 14 days than your boss can in two years.
But remember, I’m just a writer, not a coach.
Jump in now or miss your chance forever.

Really interesting to hear about your process, Kit. I'm also thinking a lot about my priorities and time allocation. Much respect for your journey.
