The 4th of July has a lot going on worldwide.
Yes, it’s Independence Day here in America, but it’s also Jackfruit Day, and Alice in Wonderland Day, just to name a few. (Yep, there’s even more than that).
When the 4th of July came around, it felt like it was really summer.
It was officially hot, pool time was in full effect, and I could never slather enough sunscreen on to make my parents happy. They would chase me around with sunscreen and threaten me with Zinc Oxide (the white stuff) if I didn’t comply.
I always relented.
It’s a good thing, too - I’m so fair; I would always burn within about fifteen minutes without sunscreen.
Thanks, parents!
🇮🇳 Jackfruit Day is celebrated in India on July 4th. This tropical fruit is the national fruit of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It’s produced mainly in Asia because it thrives in hot, tropical climates.
Jackfruit has become more prevalent in other countries recently as it has a meat-like texture when cooked, so it’s used as a meat substitute in vegetarian dishes.
This summer, I’ve become addicted to dried jackfruit. I cannot sit down with the whole bag, or I will eat it all!
🇬🇧 Alice in Wonderland is celebrated on July 4th in England, as is the author, Lewis Carroll. Carroll self-published the book in 1865. He later added characters such as the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat.
This story is still loved worldwide. I love it.
In high school, I was Alice one year for Halloween. And - in college, I took a color theory class where we had to make a diorama-like scene and light it (it was so hard)! Naturally, I chose a scene from Alice in Wonderland because it seemed a natural choice if you must play with colored lights.
There’s so much to celebrate this weekend. Whatever you get up to, I hope you have a blast. Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and maybe snack on some jackfruit.
Calling all retail leaders
I’m leading a small cohort of retail leaders this month.
A what?
Check it out: My LinkedIn newsletter, The Leadership Field Guide, has over 700 subscribers. I often receive messages on how my content helps others. So, I thought it would be great to gather a small group and share ideas across all brands and time zones. Here it is!
The North Star Cohort:
July 13-27
✨Two weeks
✨One Slack group
✨Two Zoom calls
I’ll share all my best practices for running retail stores. Ask me anything. We can share what’s working and build a community of like-minded, people-centered retail leaders. I can’t wait to build this community with everyone.
If you’d like more details, simply reply to this newsletter. If you’d like to join, I’ll drop the link below. For the first group of leaders it will be a pay-what-you-want system. Let’s go!
Take care of yourselves this weekend. Stay cool. Pour your favorite drink and pet your pets. ✌🏻
Until next time.
Peace,
Kit
I love it when you add sections of your childhood. I always remember your dad making sure you lathered while we were at the lake!
I'm going to have to try some Jackfruit!
