Dear Travelers,
I got a text message today that weighed heavily on me.
My assistant manager is in school full time and she works with me full time. She’s busy. I got a text message from my co-manager letting me know that she was upset and stressed. Her school load was heavy and she just got word that her sister was sick. Her sister is also pregnant. It was too much. My co-manager gave her some coffee cake, a hug, and let her go home early.
I’m hi-liting this because I am so thankful my co-manager was there instead of me. She is way better at dealing with high emotions than I am.
When someone is super upset at work, I give them time off the floor, an extra break, or I let them leave early. I mean, I’m not a monster, I’m just not super good at reacting as well as my co-manager does.
So, why am I telling you this?
Because surrounding yourself with people that are different than you is really good. I know that feelings are my blind spot. They just roll off me and when people are dealing with their own, I don’t really know how to comfort them. I’m just like, “do you want to go home or…” which isn’t terrible, but it isn’t great.
My co-manager, on the other hand, knows what to do. She knows how to comfort people and she knows how to celebrate. Definitely call her if you’re throwing a party!
My point is, diversify your group, wherever it may be. You can’t be great at everything. Neither can I. Own what you’re not good at and let others take the lead when needed. You’ll all look like you came out ahead.
Now - Travelers - I need your advice.
It was brought to my attention that Traveling Money is hard to say. What sounds better to you? Travel Money or Traveling Money and why? Just curious. I’m open to changes and I like to hear the thoughts of the community. If you get a chance, hit reply and let me know.
Have a fantastic weekend! I can feel fall in the air and it makes me so happy. I could feel the slightest sweep of cool air coming off the tail end of a warm breeze today and it made me smile. Sweatshirts, here I come!
I hope your whole weekend makes you feel that way. Until next time.
Peace,
Kit
I love the nostalgic feel that "traveling money" evokes for me, but if it feels inaccessible to some, I suppose I'd lean towards something that doesn't.
It is a bit harder to say but it is also more descriptive. Tricky choice!
