The art of folding paper into unique and beautiful designs is rooted in Japan. Paper used to be handmade and only available to wealthy families. When these families wrote to each other, they often included a beautifully folded piece of paper with the letter.
Using extra folded paper was a flex - it showed that you were wealthy enough to add additional paper with your letter.
