My Muama and Nana made black eyed peas every year, with a big ol’ ham hock! Greens were in the black eyed peas so I always tried to avoid them as best I could. Last year I made them myself for the first time. It brought back so many memories and was delicious. bI forgot all about it this year- until this post! Not sure if it’s too late, but damn they were so good last year, I may just have to make them anyway!

We never really had any kind of New Years tradition growing up (not unless watching Dick Clark counts).

Eventually, 1/1 was a day to nurse a hangover.

After starting in aviation, working early replaced the above (as I type this, I’m not sure I’ve ever worked on NYE, though?).

Anymore, it’s just a nice day to chill out and watch football.

This was the first year my kid was old enough to drive, so I guess a new tradition of worrying about him being out has begun?

I think watching Dick Clark counts for sure! I wish the 1st was a national holiday - just like close everything! Stay home or be in nature - those are your only choices.

I wish you piece of mind with your kid out there behind the wheel! I don't know how you parents do it! Here's to you!
